"Quizlet was founded in 2005 by 15-year-old Andrew Sutherland for a high-school French class. He wanted an easy-to-use tool for learning vocabulary. He built Quizlet for himself, shared it with his friends, and it grew from there.
Quizlet is now among the largest educational websites in the world. Millions of teachers and students from every country in the world use Quizlet. Because our website is free, we see no limit to the number of people who could use it.
Quizlet is headquartered in downtown San Francisco, California.
Students in Mrs. Manion's Technology and General Music and Band classes will be using Quizlet to study vocabulary related to the topics we are studying. It's fun and it's free! You can access it from home. Maybe one day YOU will make a discovery through technology that becomes a sensation!
The 8th grade general music classes are working to learn about music keyboarding through group lessons. The entire class plays along using mini keyboards to understand the basics of piano and other keyboard instruments. One at a time the students are able to come up to try their hands at a full-sized keyboard. Many have never used any kind of keyboard instrument before. They are learning note reading as they learn the positions on the keyboards. This activity will also ready them for the unit to follow which will introduce music software called Mixcraft to write songs using computers. More information on the keyboarding unit is HERE.
This year's 7th grade general music students are again working with the World Music Drumming curriculum. Through ensemble performance of rhythmic compositions from Western Africa and the Carribean among others, the students learn about world cultures and the universal language of music! More information about the program is HERE.
7th & 8th Grade technology students are working with a Web 2.0 collaborative tool called "Socrative." This online software enables the teacher to pose questions in a variety of formats and invite realtime student input. Surveys are being taken to determine each class's favorite fast food. It's been a bit of a food fight! The polling device is easy and fun to use, but it's real purpose is to understand how polling works and how the Internet is now a two-way street where users create content instead of just reading information.
Polling data will be used as a basis for working with Excel spreadsheets. Students will learn to input their data and then create a variety of graphs and charts from the data.
This blog will be used for class updates, lists of assignments, links to music and technology events in our area and other news from Mrs. Manion's World. It is designed as an aid and may not be up-to-date. It does not replace attention in class.
