GREAT NEWS! We are starting FULL BAND REHEARSALS THIS WEEK!
I have revised the lesson schedule to include "ALL" once a week on the rotation. This means band students will bring their instruments to school on their lesson day and on the ALL band day and be playing twice a week. We have a very short few weeks until our Holiday Concert on December 15th- so full attendance is required. Please note the new lesson groupings- your lesson group "letter" may have changed! This week we start with ALL BAND on Wednesday Nov 2 Period 3. To view and print out a copy of the schedule go HERE!
The 8th graders have entered the recording studio! Using GarageBand software on a Mac computer with a "Blue" Snowball USB microphone, the students are beginning to record spoken audio tracks. They have prepared scripts for a "welcome message" similar to the one Mrs. M recorded as an example. (See home page.) Each class has worked together to build a single background musical composition. This was created using musical "loops."
8A and 8B have different styles! Listen to the 8A & 8B's background projects by clicking on their project page found --> HERE!
Now the spoken track is being added and edited. Each script uses the class soundtrack, but the final results will be different depending on the message created and the announcer! The tracks will be mixed together into individual MP3 files. Our goal is to gain permissions to begin posting these projects on our web page!
One or our enthusiastic 7th grade students sent me a link to this awesome video featuring drummers from Guinea, Africa! Check out the djembes between the knees! The skill and speed of this traditional hand drumming is amazing. More vids are available on YouTube with your parent's permission to search. Thank you ZP for sharing this!
Have you been to the Philadelphia Orchestra's "Sound All Around" concert series? This is a great way to hear and see the orchestra! Read all about it here: SOUND ALL AROUND
We're having a party!

Six students from Kershaw Band participated this past Saturday in the AHS Band Day sponsored but the Audubon HS Marching Band and Band Boosters. Middle Schools students from Audubon under the direction of Susan Moore and Lee Deloach were joined by the Kershaw students.
The students learned "Let's Go Band II" and played it in the stands in support of the Audubon Football Team. They watched and listened to the high school band and their wonderful half-time presentation based on a Knight's theme. The boosters provided a wonderful lunch for the students. A great time was had by all and a great chance for the younger students to experience first-hand where they are headed in Audubon High School Band! Thanks for inviting us!
It was great to see so many Mt. Ephraim students participating in the high school band, the colorguard, the football team and as cheerleaders! One former Kershaw student who is a Junior Music Composition major at UDEL came back to say hello! Here is a picture of Mrs. Manion & Mrs. Moore- who have collaborated on many band projects over the years. See you at Honors Band Mrs. Moore!
I have added a new page under Instrumental Music Ensembles for the Pop Rock Ensemble! Check it out! (And start PRACTICING!)

AHS Band Day
This is a picture of our stage rehearsal area- ready to go for a band meeting! There are currently two choruses, led by Mrs. Egan, who meet weekly and are busy preparing holiday concert numbers. They are divided into a 5-6 group and a 7-8 group. The band is currently organized into small group instrumental lessons which are meeting weekly with Mrs. Manion. Closer to concert time there will be combined rehearsals for all the band students 5,6,7 & 8. There are already close to 50 students signed up! We are filling the seats! It's not too late to join the band program- just stop down and talk to Mrs. M about it. It's important to note that many students are in BOTH band and chorus. Sign up for both today!
This blog will be used for class updates, lists of assignments, links to music and technology events in our area and other news from Mrs. Manion's World. It is designed as an aid and may not be up-to-date. It does not replace attention in class.
