The new HP Mini laptops are in- 30 of them. We should begin using them next week! Be prepared to start S-L-O-W-L-Y to learn procedures, how to customize our individual laptops and access parts of our network. One step at a time! Then.... we're off! :) Here is one that Mrs. Sweeny was loading with software!
I came across an ad for Guitar Center for free recording workshops at their stores every Saturday! I will check it out. Why don't you, too? Even if you do not have a MAC computer, you may learn something. There are comparable PC programs such as Mixcraft. Check out the Guitar Center ad! There are four workshops including 1) Signal Flow and Microphone Techniques, 2) Virtual Instruments and Loops, 3) Effects and 4) Mixing and Publishing. Guitar Center is located next to the Cherry Hill Mall on Route 38. Workshops are on Saturdays 10-11 am. Registration required.
Mr. Ed Coles, Jr., from Ed Coles Music Service recently visited our district to talk to students about his services including rental instruments, repairs and supplies. At Kershaw School he met with over 40 of Mrs. M's band students who listened and then had a question and answer session about repairs and maintenance. At Mary Bray School he greeted the entire 4th grade. He welcomed his friends from the Midiri Brothers who provided a fun demonstration of instruments and encouraged Mrs. E's students to join the band program.
Okay kids- as promised I found a great new amp to use with my laptop. We will be rockin' the house now! Special thanks to my friends at Guitar Center in Cherry Hill for helping me out!
Coles Music Service is approved to visit our school and provide rental instruments of good quality and price, repairs, supplies and you name it! Ed Coles Jr will be visiting Kershaw School 2nd period on Wed Sept 21 to meet and greet band kids. He will do a demo of instruments with Mary Bray students the same morning. He will be available at Mary Bray Back To School Night on the same evening at approx 8 pm FOR ALL PARENTS not just Mary Bray. If you need the opportunity to speak to him please come out. Printed info is available from both music teachers as well. Get your horn set and ready to go! :)
I just put the new band lesson schedule up! Check it out- you can print it. Lessons start tomorrow and I can't wait! Have you practiced? Bring your instrument and the red lesson book if you have one- just for starters!
Did you know that Mrs. M is a student, too? I have just worked two hours tonight on assignments related to a course I am taking right now from Penn State. It's an online course. So I am required to go on the Internet on the very laptop you see me use in class and find out my assignments. It's up to me to find out the class syllabus and timeline to turn in assignments. Assignments in my class are all online. It's all about organizing and following the timeline and directions. I have my Google calendar remind me of deadlines. I just follow "the rules" basically- and in doing that I can't help but learn something new! I hope to "ACE" this class. How about you?
Wow! What a turn out! We have at least 40 kids who are wanting to join the instrumental music program at Kershaw School! Shout out to one enthusiastic clarinet player who took great initiative to design and print out recruitment posters and put them throughout the school! And he even remembered to highlight that we need trumpet players! GREAT JOB AND MANY THANKS! :)
Someone sent me a link to this whacky song about being in band! Give it a listen!

This blog will be used for class updates, lists of assignments, links to music and technology events in our area and other news from Mrs. Manion's World. It is designed as an aid and may not be up-to-date. It does not replace attention in class.
