I have added a page for my general music students about the Star-Spangled Banner.
Thanks to ZP for reminding classmates that Mid-terms are over and it's time to get back to a regular band rehearsals and practice schedule! Signs began appearing througout the building this week to cheer on the band members and help everyone to look at the new schedule and get to band this Monday! Thanks!
Check out the new lesson schedule- good for the next two weeks.
ALL BAND meets on Monday, January 30th. (Thanks for your patience last Monday when I was out sick!) Bring instruments to school on Monday!
We will be starting a new "pass off chart" to keep track of our playing skills and to earn rewards! :)
New band music is out- Mr. Joe, Linus & Lucy, Clarinets on the Run, God Bless The USA and for jazz combo only- Sesame Street. Pop Rockers have Bad Case of Lovin' You. Start practicing DAILY!!
What a great concert today at Audubon High School! Congratulations to all 12 of you! You did a great job!
Please note that since the rehearsals have been going so well- the directors have changed the reporting time for this Saturday's Honors Band rehearsal. Please report at 10:15am to Audubon High School- rehearsal will begin promptly at 10:30am. Wear your concert clothes, bring a bag lunch, your horn, your music. Concert begins at 1:00pm. Great job all 12 honors band students!
Did you know that Vinyl records were introduced by RCA (45 rpm) and Columbia (33.3 rpm) on January 10, 1949! Today I had fun creating a video of our hallway display put together by the 7th & 8th grade general music classes with help from parents and staff! Thanks for the contributions and enjoy! Be sure to look at the link to a timeline of audio recording history. Click HERE to go to the video page! Enjoy!
Hello all! There will be NO band lessons on Monday Jan 9 (afternoon) or on Wed Jan 11 (afternoon). This in exchange for extra rehearsals Mrs. M held during the December concert week. Honors Band recess rehearsals on M-W-F are still "on." All other classes are still "on."
Congratulations to the twelve Kershaw students participating in the Winter Festival Honors Band! You did a great job on Wednesday at the first rehearsal! This group is over 50 students representing the schools or Brooklawn, Audubon, Oaklyn, Mt. Ephraim and Gloucester City! Keep checking the schedule and practice!!
I recently read an article that may be of interest to parents. It is from "Common Sense Media" and talks about how children often receive high tech toys for christmas- and parents may not be aware of the full use of the device until it is home and out of the box. This online article "Family Guide To Kids High-Tech Toys" looks at individual devices, including E-readers, Tablets, Smartphones, Handheld Game Consoles and Learning Tablets.
For example the author states, "Often, it's not until your kids start taking advantage of the fancy features that you realize what the devices can do. That new tablet computer your daughter uses for book reports also lets her video chat with friends at midnight. The smartphone your son uses to text you for a ride also "helped" him rack up $60 in charges playing a certain app with in-game purchases."
A must read if your child is getting into some new technology that you may be unfamiliar with!
This blog will be used for class updates, lists of assignments, links to music and technology events in our area and other news from Mrs. Manion's World. It is designed as an aid and may not be up-to-date. It does not replace attention in class.
