Our 8th grade students have been incredible this year in both Music & Technology! They recently completed a blues songwriting project and we published a book. You can view and download it here and sing their songs to the tune of "Good Morning Blues." Great work!
They then worked through a unit using mini keyboards and transferred their knowledge to a full size keyboard. Students individually performed a progression of songs to display their skills using two hands and correct fingering on a keyboard. Many were surprised at their skills. We also correlated this to our work on the computer keyboards in technology. We are not all thumbs! :) This was challenging for some students but they all worked hard at it and should be proud. Many surprised themselves by showing a real talent for the keyboard and are considering buying one in the future for their own pleasure in music.
In Technology, 8th graders will be starting their final unit utilizing Excel Spreadsheets and integrating Technology with Math concepts. This project is called "Boardwalk!" Groups will design a boardwalk shop and track expenses and profits and generate a report with charts to make a "pitch" to Mr. Moneybags- who will hopefully loan them money to open their shop on Memorial Day Weekend. A class beach party is planned at the end of the project. Congratulations to the 8th grade class for a year of hard work and best wishes for a great last quarter in Kershaw School!
This blog will be used for class updates, lists of assignments, links to music and technology events in our area and other news from Mrs. Manion's World. It is designed as an aid and may not be up-to-date. It does not replace attention in class.
